Twenty bike hitches were installed downtown Monday, kicking off Stamford’s Bike to Work Week and launching the City’s Bike Parking Program. Joined by the Downtown Special Services District and community members this afternoon, Mayor David Martin rode in on Atlantic Street to help put in the final bike hitch.

The Mayor says this is another step forward in the City’s Street Smart Initiative to make the roads safer. And the Mayor is practicing what he preaches; with his own personal Mayor’s Bike, Martin is committed to his push for a more bike friendly city.

If the program is successful, the Mayor says residents can expect to see more bike hitches around the City. For a map of locations, visit http://stamford-downtown.com/getting-around/biking/. Monday’s event was the first of several being held throughout Bike to Work Week. A full list of events can be found at www.StamfordCT.gov/BiketoWork
