One by one, the students at Newfield Elementary School made a wish on a piece of a meteor children's author Patricia Polacco says fell from the sky.  Polacco, who has now written over a hundred children's books, told this story and many more on a special visit to the school. The children's eyes fixed on the author Friday morning, as she inspired them to dream. The students at Newfield prepared for Polacco's visit for months, studying her books and lining the hallways with artwork reflecting her literature.

Many of Polacco's stories reflect real experiences in her life, such as struggling with a learning disability. Other prevalent themes include bullying and the importance of family. But all of her books hold meaningful lessons, and they didn't go unnoticed by the students at Newfield.
