Every dog has its day, as the saying goes, and in Stamford that day is coming up this weekend.

"It's Saturday August 23.  It's a dog and car wash," said Matt.  "All proceeds will go to STARelief, which is an organization that provides medical care, temporary homes and food for pets of caretakers who are going through financial hardships."

The mission of the Stamford-based non-profit is making sure pet owners never have to surrender their animals.  Also, that each pet is taken care of.

"To me it's just really important.  Especially with everything that's going on in Stamford and to really keep dogs in their homes," said Pam Conte, director of the event. "So, we're looking forward to supporting a great cause."

The first Doggy Day Palooza will take place at Stamford's dog park.  It's being organized by the Fairfield County Young Democrats.

The public is invited to attend at no cost, but there is a suggested five dollar donation that will be given directly to STARelief.

If you're interesting in volunteering or sponsoring the event, check out their Doggy Day Palooza Facebook page or at  #DoggyDayPalooza or contact Pam Conte at DoggyDayPalooza@gmail.com.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Stamford's dog park is located at 39 Courtland Ave.
