For Chuck Cernansky every day that goes by without his son brings up memories and emotion. But days like this are a little easier, he says, when surrounded by family and friends.
"It helps because of the support and engagement with everyone," said Chuck Cernansky.
Monday, they spent the day remembering his son Peter-- a Westhill High School 2012 graduate and varsity football quarterback. He was just 18 years old and tragically passed away from a skateboarding accident.
"Pete was a very upbeat kid. He was extremely competitive but, he kept it underneath his spirit of support," said Cernansky.
They're honoring him in a special way with a memorial fund created in his name to help other students.
"Particularly kids, all kids, making the transition from eighth grade through high school into college and really beyond," said Cernansky.
The second annual golf tournament and dinner at Rock Rimmon Country Club raises funds for the program that Cernansky says reflects his son's spirit.
"He had a very big heart and he would want kids to succeed," he said.
