Thousands lined up along East Avenue on Memorial Day to take part in a Norwalk tradition.

"My favorite part is watching the veterans who have served," said Norwalker Jasmyne Braxton.

More than a dozen veterans groups as well as marching bands and community organizations took part in the 2014 Norwalk Veterans Memorial Committee Memorial Day parade.

This year Lee Seymour, a Norwalk resident and U.S. Marine Corps veteran served as grand marshal of the 2014 Memorial Day Parade.

"It's fun to spend time with your family and watch the veterans who have served for our country," said Isaiah Sawyer of Norwalk.

"If they never served, we wouldn't be here. So it's good to give them credit for what they have done," said Norwalker Andrew Braxton.

Residents say attending the parade is the least they can do to honor those who have served

Elaine Chandler, a native Norwalker has been attending the parade with her family for as long as she can remember. "It's important to see all the officers and the people from the armed services. We come and watch the police, the firemen and our children who are in the parade."

Louis DePanfilis has attended the Memorial Day parade since he was a young boy. DePanfilis' participated in the parade as one of the many veterans. "It's been a tradition in our family ever since we were little children. It's a honor to support everyone that has served our country for our freedoms. We would never have these freedoms without them."
