The Stamford Police Department held a memorial service to honor five Stamford police officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

“These officers shunned a life of comfort and ease and instead awoke every morning, dawned a badge, and put their lives at risk for all of us,” says Assistant Chief of Police James Matheny. “These officers paid the ultimate sacrifice.”

“The world calls police officers who made the supreme sacrifice heroic and brave,” says Director of Public Safety Ted Jankowski. “These police officers are heroes, not only because of how they died, but because of how they lived.”

“We can’t replace birthdays and holidays and anniversaries, and all of these people were fathers and sons and brothers and husbands,” says Matheny. “We want the families to know how much we appreciate and how grateful we are for the sacrifice that they made.”
