Fourteen bands went head-to-head Saturday Night at Westhill High School for the Musical Arts Conference (MAC) Regional Championship. Marching units from Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey competed in the second annual indoor percussion competition. It's the first time Westhill High School has hosted the MAC championships.
"This was one of the best shows we've had in recent years," said senior Mac Ira. "I think this is going to be a very good performance."
New Milford placed first in the class, Westhill High School second, and Stamford High school third.
"We have a young group of kids, they're driven, they want to excel," said instrumental music teacher Michael Wyatt. "But we're facing good competition."
Westhill High School won the MAC championships last year. They will continue on to championships in Ohio next week, where they'll compete against 54 groups in their class from around the nation.
This year's theme, entitled 'Hanging by a Thread' brought together the creativity of puppetry and music.
"This year, our theme, is we're puppets, as you can see," said Ira. "And we revolt against our puppet master."
