You might think it is impossible to swim from Greenwich, Connecticut to Greenwich, England, but starting this Spring you can through the G2G Challenge at the YMCA!
"The idea is to swim from Greenwich, CT all the way to Greenwich, UK and it is going to take them awhile so it's a good thing the session is 11 weeks long so they'll get there," said Ed Philipp, CEO and President of Greenwich YMCA. "It's just a good way to keep the kids interested in their swim lessons."
"It gives them a great goal to look forward to, that they are swimming this big distance, we're going to have a map tracking it along the way so they can kind of follow their progress through the whole session," said Kevin Switek, Aquatics Director at the Greenwich YMCA.
The spring swimming session is especially important as we approach the summer months.
"Everybody likes to go swimming in the summer whether it's a backyard pool, a lake, a beach, so swim safety is really important," said Switek.
"Being in Greenwich, especially since it is a water town, it would be our biggest hope that everyone is water safe, especially for the summer and especially for the little guys," said Samantha Lusher, Swim School Director at the Greenwich YMCA. "So if we can get them to move independently so the parents and the kids do not have to be nervous around the water then we've done our job correctly."
And according to brothers Jack and Griffin, taking swim lessons is really important!
Spring registration for swim school begins March 17th and the program begins March 29th.
