Since the recent launch of Solarize Stamford, 10 city residents have used the program to save money on their electric bills and reduce their carbon footprint, and the interest in solar is growing, according to a press release.
With electricity rates on the rise, some bills will increase approximately $150 annually for the average Connecticut homeowner using 700 kilowatt-hours of electricity.
Solarize Stamford leverages group discounts for residents through three pre-selected installers: Astrum Solar, Encon Solar and Renewable Resources, Inc. for 20-week period. The Solarize systems generate 81.4 kW of power, the equivalent of planting 16,280 trees, as well as equaling 7,163,200 lbs of greenhouse gases not emitted and 8,791,200 miles not driven.
Stamford's 10 residents to recently sign up for Solarize join nearly 50 residents who already went solar prior to the program.
"After learning the government incentives [would] help with a large portion of the expense, I thought this might be the best time for me to do something good to help the environment," said Paula Eytel, who went solar in 2012.
“By providing a clean and renewable source of electricity for my home, I’m doing my part to leave a healthy world for my grandchildren to enjoy," said Dr. Naresh Hiller, who also installed his solar in 2012.
All residents must sign the solar contract before April 15 to take advantage of the Solarize pricing.
There are two upcoming events scheduled for residents interested in learning more about Solarize Stamford. Homeowners who have already received a solar home survey from Renewable Resources are encouraged to bring their proposals for one-on-one consultations with the installers.
