The City of Stamford is now on Facebook.
Mayor David Martin's office announced Friday that the city launched its official Facebook page earlier this week. It's the city's first engagement with the social media platform.
“Facebook is a staple of how people communicate in today’s world. We are focused on making city government open and citizen friendly and this is one tool to do just that,” said Mayor David Martin.
The page will host information from the government center and include updates from city departments, including the mayor's office.
City press announcements, public service announcements, community events, select board and commission meeting information, and coverage of the mayor's activities will be posted on the page.
National data shows at least 71 percent of all internet users are on Facebook, which is what led the city to launch the page.
In the coming months, the city will explore additional tools to enhance online communications, including better use of the city website and re-establishing an online newsletter for residents.
The new site is www.Facebook.com/CityofStamford.
You can also follow the city on Twitter, @CityofStamford. The account has 2,480 follows and is used primarily for public safety updates.
