Looking for a way to kick your New Year's resolution into high gear? Boxing and kickboxing may be the workout for you.
"It's hard these days to pick up just about any magazine or read anything that doesn't talk about boxing and kickboxing in terms of one of the best workouts in terms of weight loss and conditioning," said, Eric Van de Bovenkamp, owner of TITLE Boxing Club of Norwalk.
Van de Bovenkamp says you don't have to be a fitness buff to learn how to box.
"People do get intimidated. They hear boxing and think they are going to walk in and see people fighting in our ring. Our ring is only for personal training. We are a non-contact facility. We are 100% about fitness and we start at 8 years old and my oldest member is 87 years old" said Van de Bovenkamp.
Boxers can burn up to 1000 calories in 1 hour with a workout that includes punches, kicks and ab work.
Van de Bovenkamp said, "When you come in, you're doing 15 minutes of cardio to get your heart rate up and start to break a little sweat. Then we do 8 3 minutes rounds on a heavy bag with a combination of either kicks or punches that are changed every 30-40 seconds by the personal trainer. So not only is it fun and interesting and exciting, but you're constantly being challenged"
