More than 50 golfers hit the course Thursday for the Yerwood Center’s first Annual Dream Golf Outing. The event was hosted at Sterling Farms Golf Course to raise money for the Center’s programs.
“It’s a great way to bring a lot of folks that enjoy the sport together and support a great cause,” says Yerwood center Board Member Ravi Abbineni.
“I think anything that supports the dreams of our youth is something worth investing in,” says participant Joe Nellis.
After the outing, the Center’s staff and youth gave speeches about how the Yerwood Center has impacted their lives.
“We have responsibility to set examples for younger kids.”
“It taught me if I try my best I can succeed.”
“The passion that’s behind that program, it’s priceless,” says basketball coach Vanessa Gidden. “When you walk into the Center you feel like you’re home.”
“It’s a place where kids can come, explore things that they want to do whether it’s sports, whether it’s leadership, whether it’s technology,” says Abbineni.
Organizers say the event also served as a platform to promote the Center’s new vision and slogan, Dream.
“Hopefully a lot of these young kids understand the word dream, begin to dream, and use the Yerwood Center to help them fulfill their dream,” says Mayor Michael Pavia.
Organizers say they expect the event to raise $20,000 for the Center’s programs. They say this will be the first of many dream golf outings.
