The Ferguson Library hosted a panel discussion Wednesday night on education in an urban environment. The panel featured author Ron Berler, Stamford’s Superintendent of Schools Winnie Hamilton, and former president of Stamford’s Board of Education Dudley Williams. The panelists discussed the challenges faced by today’s students

Berler’s book, “Raising the Curve: A Year Inside One of America’s 45,000 Failing Public Schools,” was the focus of the discussion. The book chronicles a term inside Norwalk’s Brookside Elementary School.

The panelists gave input on some of the factors they believe affect the success of schools and students. The downfalls of test taking was a significant topic of discussion. The speakers also stressed the importance of parental and community involvement in education.
