$80 Million Bequest Given to Hospital and YMCA

Norwalk Hospital and the Westport Weston Family YMCA have each received $40 million bequest from the estate of Ruth Thomas Bedford.

Ruth Bedford was a longtime philanthropist, public service activist and the granddaughter of Edward Bedford, a Standard Oil executive.

Local leaders say its a large sum that is sure to make a impact in both the Norwalk and Westport communities.  

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling said in a statement  “Since Norwalk Hospital is critically important to our community, this bequest from Ruth Bedford will have a profound, immeasurably positive impact on the people of Norwalk and the surrounding area.”
