"24 hours to give where you live". That's the slogan for Fairfield County Giving Day, a day where area non-profits benefit from gifts from donors in the community.

"The goal is $1 million. we started at midnight last night and we will go until 11:59 pm tonight," said Juanita James, the President and CEO of Fairfield County Community Foundation.

Donors and non-profits gathered in Stamford for the Home Stretch Celebration. The televisions have been counting down until midnight and totaling donations, and a few lucky Non-profits were awarded with $500 from donors in a raffle.

Almost 12,000 gifts have been donated to 400 Fairfield County non-profits.

"That's very exciting for us that we have so many participating from all over Fairfield County," said James.

"It's really an opportunity for some of the smaller non profits who really don't have the staff or the resources to do a lot of fundraising," said Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling,

"Organizations need a lot more than just money. They need leadership, direction, and help in establishing that," said Stamford Mayor David Martin.

The funds raised on Giving Day are a huge help for non-profits like St. Joseph Parenting Center.

"We really appreciate the funds we are getting today," said Measi O'Rourke, the Executive Director of St. Joseph Parenting Center.

"It is really a community event," said James.

"We do have a lot of people who are so willing to give and help others," said Rilling.
