Eighteen veterans will be recognized for their service this Friday at a special awards dinner in Stamford.  Organized each year by the Knights of Columbus, the ceremony, in it's ninth year now, has honored over 100 local veterans past and present.

Organizers says it's important that people appreciate and recognize these extraordinary heroes who put their lives on the line for this country. And those serving who can't make the ceremony certainly aren't forgotten, with a designated Table of Honor set up in their memory. Complete with a hat from each branch of service, everything on the table has a special significance.

Organizers say the community has embraced the event, selling-out the over 200 tickets each year. Proceeds from the ceremony go to veteran related charities. This year, the money will be used to purchase wheelchairs to be donated to the VA.

The annual dinner will take place Friday at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Shippan Avenue.
