A popular saying at this time of year is "new year, new me". News Years Resolutions can range from quitting cigarettes to losing weight. Joshua Hrabosky of Greenwich Hospital gives his advice on beginning exercise and diet to reach weight loss goals.

"Patience and forgiveness are two of the most important parts of any behavior change, especially a New Year's Resolution," said Hrabosky.

Hrabosky recommends that people have realistic expectations of the amount of weight they can lose over a certain time period.

"They start to play the math game, where they start to speculate. That's not how weight loss happens," said Hrabosky.

Plan ahead for times that you will break your diet.

"Whether it's a holiday party,  a birthday party. As the year goes on, there will be a lot of different events that they will attend and want to enjoy. Plan for those and expect that they are not going to experience weight loss success everyday or every week," said Hrabosky.

Hrabosky wants people to remember that Everyone's body is different, so everyone gains and looses weight differently. For more information on weight loss, contact the Greenwich Hospital weight loss and diabetes center.
