"This is another tool in the toolbox," said Kathryn Hebert, Executive Director of the Norwalk Parking Authority. "another resource to connect to the driver and connect with the community through technology."

That new tool is called Parker and it ready to be downloaded in Norwalk.

"There are an unbelievable 70 million hours spent every year looking for that perfect parking space. We want people to find parking easily and get to their destinations and enjoy themselves. We want to give people choices," said Hebert.

The system works via wireless sensors that are embedded in each parking space to detect whether or not the space is occupied.  Data from each sensor is relayed via wireless to the cloud and pushed into an easy-to-use app showing real-time parking availability.  CASE parking, a parking data solutions provider, will collect occupancy data from the lots and garages.  Streetline, the leading global provider of sensor-based smart parking technology, has outfitted the on-street parking spaces with sensors. Data from both systems will be streamed directly into Streetline's mobile app, Parker™.

The app, available for Apple and Android users, is the first smart parking technology in Connecticut, enabling users to find a parking spot in real-time with just the touch of a finger.

Zia Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer of Streetline said, "The problem you are trying to solve is when you get to an intersection, you have a blind choice to make. Make a left, a right or go straight. What you will see on the app is it will say less than two if you take a left for example, two plus and four plus if you take a right. The less than two could give you a space but it is very unlikely. If you go to the two plus and four plus, you are guaranteed a spot."

The Parking Authority says the app is another way of making it easier to live, work and visit Norwalk.

For businesses in the urban core of Norwalk, it allows people to get out of their cars and into the businesses quickly and easily. For the City, it attracts more people to the urban core, knowing that parking is available for them," said Julius Hayward, Chairman of the Norwalk Parking Authority.

Currently, real-time information about open parking spaces is available for the Yankee Doodle garage, the Haviland, North Water Street and Webster lots, as well as select-metered parking in the City. For more information about 'Parker' visit
