Mayor David Martin of Stamford publicly supporting fellow Democrat Marc Abrams, who's running for Connecticut's 149th district.  Martin endorsed the candidate for state representative Thursday.  The Mayor lives in the district Abrams hopes to represent.

"Although I believe our representative means very well, the reality is, is that I'm not always certain that her interests align exactly with Stamford interests," said Mayor Martin.

Abrams, a businessman from Greenwich, is challenging incumbent Republican Livvy Floren.  It's his first run for state office.

"My opponent is more on the side of staying for the status quo," said Marc Abrams, Democratic nominee for the 149th district.

Floren writes on her campaign website, "I am seeking re-election to an eighth term as your State Representative because now, more than ever, we need an experienced voice in Hartford to fight for common sense government"

But Abrams says he's bringing something new to the table.  Part of which, he says, is his vision of working with both sides of the aisle in Hartford.

"Reasonable people ought to be able to sit across the table from each other and say, we can agree on the problem," said Abrams.  "Now let's figure out the solution or the path to the solution and that's much more of the approach I will take."

He says that outlook will help render plans for solutions to issues like transportation and said, "It's not simply about repairing bridges and roads and the highways.  That's necessary, but that doesn't take you to the next level."

Abrams is a Greenwich resident and Representative Town Meeting member from District 11.  He was nominated 8-0 by the Democratic delegation for the 149th District.  Election Day is November 4.
