On Saturday, August 2, the Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery in Stamford will present its annual Thank You, CT! exhibition, featuring 39 Connecticut artists. In its fourth year, the show is a juried exhibition that has brought museum directors, art critics, foundation presidents, and established artists to Connecticut to judge each year's entries. The exhibit opens at 3 p.m. with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 96 Bedford Street. For more information, visit

On Sunday, August 3, The Norwalk Police Department will partner with Stew Leonard III Children’s Charities, Fairfield County Safe Kids, and Norwalk Parks and Recreation, to sponsor a water safety day at Norwalk’s Calf Pasture Beach. The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and feature educational materials,Stewie the Duck, the N.P.D. Dive Rescue Truck, and more.

On Saturday and Sunday, The Stamford Museum and Nature Center will host Fabulous Forests Summer Family Campout. Visitors can pitch a tent, roast S’mores over a campfire, take a night hike on the forest trails, meet live birds of prey, create tree-themed crafts, help plant a new generation of sugar maple trees, and look at the stars through the Observatory telescope. Participants will also receive a special tour of the Nature Center’s new exhibition, TREEHOUSES: Look Who’s Living in the Trees. The evening will start with a dinner on the meadow and campers can enjoy the morning with a self-guided forest treasure hunt and pancake breakfast featuring the SM&NC’s own maple syrup.  All meals are included. Also happening this weekend, pirates are taking over Sheffield Island. After a short ferry ride to the island, visitors will encounter pirate re-enactors who will entertain them with storytelling, sword fighting, cannon fire demonstrations, and much more. The Pirate Weekend activities are free with the purchase of round-trip ferry tickets to the island. The Norwalk Seaport Association ferry to Sheffield Island will depart at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. from the Sheffield Island dock, adjacent to the Stroffolino Bridge, at the corner of Washington and Water Streets in South Norwalk.
