Stamford community members joined together on the steps of the Old Town Hall Sunday for a celebration of Peruvian Independence Day.

For 23 years, the Peruvian American Community Center has been raising the flag, celebrating not only the Peruvian community, but the diverse city that Stamford is as a whole. This year’s ceremony had some special guests, including Peruvian Congressman Carlos Bruce. Invited to Stamford by the Peruvian American Community Center, Bruce spent the last few days touring the city.

On Sunday, his last day in Stamford, Bruce says he was honored to be joined by U.S. Congressman Jim Himes, who was born in Peru, raising both the American and Peruvian flag over the city.
