Norwalk High School would not look its best without the much needed help from its students.

"Everyone comes together and you appreciate your school and you feel proud," said Norwalk High School senior Bridget McCallum.

Every year nearly 200 students from Norwalk High School join teachers and parents to plant, trim, weed out and pick up trash around the school building.

"It started 15 years ago when our principal at the time was out shoveling mulch before graduation in his suit and a bunch of teachers said, hey, we got to help," said Norwalk High School social studies teacher Kyle Seaburg.

"It's really really cool because it's one of the few feelings of unity we get as a school," said Norwalk High School senior Jack Patterson.

It's part of the school's annual Campus Clean Up day, where students planted over 30 yards of mulch and thousands of dollars worth of plants.

"Right now we're weeding and we're going to be planting rhododendrons," said McCallum. "So this area that's toward the front of where people come in, they'll see it and it looks beautiful."

Students also planted the 15th white river birch tree in memory of a fallen Norwalk High School veteran.

"We're adding, every year at least one white birch tree in honor of an alumni who has served and died," said Seaburg.
