Stamford's Superintendent of Public Schools Dr. Winnie Hamilton got a surprise this morning.

The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County's executive director and chairman announced that Hamilton will be honored with the organization's Thomas Steele Award.

After the holidays, Hamilton led an all district food drive for the food bank.  Hamilton says they collected over 7,000 pounds of food and says teaching children to give back is an important lesson.

She'll be presented this award at the food bank's 9th annual chef's dinner to fight hunger.  It's scheduled for October 8 at the Stamford Yacht Club.
