The Arbor Day Foundation has named Norwalk a Tree City USA for the 10th consecutive year.  The honor recognizes communities across the U.S. that demonstrate urban forestry and high levels of tree care and innovation.

"A tree canopy in a city is something of pride," said Dan Landau President of the Norwalk Tree Alliance. "It enriches the air quality, enriches values and it's very pretty to look at and has a calming effect."

Norwalk is one in about eight cities in Connecticut honored this year by the Arbor Day Foundation. Qualifications are reviewed by the Forestry Division of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the State Forester.

As the warmer weather sets in and trees begin to blossom, the Norwalk Tree alliance will continue to grow trees at the Norwalk Tree Farm, and replant them in areas around the city.

"We actively plant trees in places where there are no trees or places where a tree has been lost or damaged somehow and has to be taken down and we will re-plant another tree if it's appropriate."

For nearly 10 years the Norwalk Tree alliance has planted a tree a local school. On April 25th the alliance will join local dignitaries at Wolfpit Elementary School to plant a red maple tree for Abor Day.
