On Monday, parents got the chance to learn more about how the Common Core State Standards will affect learning in Stamford’s schools. Stamford Public Schools hosted a community forum at AITE on how the new academic standards will impact the curriculum.

The common core standards have been adapted by 45 states in the country. They focus on fewer concepts in math and English language arts so students can learn more in depth. Stamford’s public schools have been working the standards into the curriculum since 2006.

After an overview, parents participated in classroom exercises demonstrating how the standards are being infused into the curriculum.

Officials say there will be several more community forums over the next few months. Once finalized, forum dates will be posted on
