It’s been almost a year since Stamford’s Animal Control Center Task Force was created by the Mayor following controversy at the Shelter, and on Thursday the Task Force made its final report of its findings.

The Task Force was set up last June, after the shelter’s former director Laurie Hollywood was fired for allegedly adopting out aggressive dogs and falsifying documents. The board’s job was to address challenges at the shelter and find solutions.

After 14 meetings and 1 public hearing, the Task Force came up with a new volunteer policy, an updated adoption policy, visited 8 potential sites for a new animal shelter, and drafted a new animal welfare ordinance.

The Mayor will now submit the ordinance to the Board of Reperesntatives for review, which will include a public hearing. Officials say the process is expected to take several months before a decision is made. Hollywood’s case is still in the courts. Most recently, her attorney filed for a Franks hearing, claiming key facts of her were omitted from the arrest warrant that could point to her innocence.
