The New Canaan Rams are heading to Citi Field, but not to watch the Mets play. The baseball team will join over 100 athletes as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation's (MMRF) Team for Cures for the Reebok Spartan Race this Saturday, May 9th.

"Instead of just donating money to a charity or an organization we are actually get your hands dirty a little bit. In this case they're going to get their hands dirty, have some fun, hang out as a team and raise some money. What could be better than that?" said New Canaan Head Baseball Coach Mitch Hoffman.

The Rams will take on the 3 mile, 20 obstacle race all while raising funds for MMRF.

"This team gets to go do push ups in the locker room and do step ups on the dug out and run on the track and just be all over the field. It's just a really good fit for them because they get to take something that they love and connect it to a really powerful fundraising experience," said Alicia O'Neill, Director of Business Development and Partnerships, MMRF Events.

And for the Rams, MMRF hits close to home.

Co-Captain and pitcher David Guisti is a member of the team. His mother Kathy Giusti is the Founder and Executive Chairman of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and is a multiple myeloma survivor.

While this is the first time MMRF is partnering with the Spartan Race, the foundation is no stranger to getting the community up and active to raise awareness.

The foundation’s Endurance Events program has a significant presence in more than 20 world class events including the TCS New York City Marathon, Boston Marathon, London Marathon, the Five Boro Bike Tour and IRONMAN Lake Placid. In 2014, the MMRF Endurance Events program raised over $3.4 million, with nearly 90 percent budgeted for cancer research.

So far the Ram have raised over $7,000 with hopes of hitting their $10,000 goal before race day.

The Rams will take on the Spartan Race on Saturday May 9th. The 2015 MMRF 5K Walk/Run will take place on Sunday, June 7th at New Canaan High School. For more information about the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, visit http://www.themmrf.org.
