City Officials say Stamford is ready for the snow. Mayor David Martin held a press conference Monday morning warning residents what to expect and how to prepare. Mayor Martin says Stamford should expect anywhere from 8 to 30 inches of snow with possibel wind speeds up to 50 mph. The City's Hurricane Barrier has been closed, and the Mayor says Stamford's Emergency Operation Center will be fully operational during the duration of the storm, with all hands on deck.

With predicted high winds, officials say residents should plan for possible power outages. A Connecticut Light and Power Representative will be available at the City's EOC but the Mayor says lines can't be cleared with high winds.

Residents must have their cars off all designated snow emergency routes by 6 p.m. tonight. All city garages will be open 24 hours with free parking effective immediately. The Mayor is also encouraging reisdents that aren't on snow emergency routes to move their cars to make the snow removal process easier and make room for emergency vehicles.

Residents are encouraged to have an emergency plan and kit, bring their pets inside, check on neighbors, help dig out fire hydrants, and avoid using generators and combustibles indoors. Most importantly, officials urge people to stay inside if possible and be prepared to wait out the storm.

Officials say Stamford's Government Center and all fire stations will be open, serving as emergency warming centers. Stamford's schools will be closed Tuesday, January 27.  For more information, visit the city's website at  stamfordct.gov
