Stamford is getting the word out about a new Connecticut initiative that's bringing awareness to public health.  The campaign "Lead Public Health" kicked off at four local health departments around the state, including Stamford. The city's Department of Health and Social Services, hosting a hair fair today at the government center.

"It's important for the public to be aware of all the services we provide and that is why we are having this open house," said Anne Fountain, Stamford director of health and social services.

"Our goal in Lead Public Health is to think about a vision for what every resident should have access to in terms of public health services in the state," said Katharine Lewis, deputy commissioner of the state department of public health, "And beginning a dialogue about how to create a robust and equitable public health system in Connecticut."

"This gives you an opportunity to look in different departments within the city of Stamford.  We have social services, senior services, HIV [resources].  Different departments that you can see different things that you may or may not need, but it's actually there and your tax dollars are paying for it," said Vonda Pommills, who works in Stamford and attended the health fair.

The campaign is supported by a grant the state received from the Aspen Institute.  To find out more, visit this link: http://www.ct.gov/dph/cwp/view.asp?a=3115&q=538774
