The girls of the Stamford Stars Softball Team lived up to their name this weekend. The 12 and under team finished first in the Babe Ruth State Tournament, hosted in Stamford at Cove Island Park.
“They’ve had a real successful season,” says Stamford Stars 12 U Manager Rich Lyons. “With these games, I think we’re something like 23 and 3 now.”
The girls ended the two-day tournament on a high note Sunday, winning their last game 15-0.
“We worked really hard for this,” says player Morgan Yacavone. “We’ve been practicing for weeks and weeks.”
The team will now move on to the Regional competition, where they’ll play for a shot in the World Series tournament.
“There’s just going to be a lot of tough teams there but we have to try our hardest and don’t give up,” says player Dana Serricchio.
But win or lose, the girls say it’s all about the love for the game. And there’s no shortage of team spirit for these Stamford stars.
“It’s just like putting your heart into it and playing your hardest with all of your best friends,” says player Madi Cortell.
The regional tournament will take place at the end of the month in New Hampshire.
