New technology is hitting the streets of Norwalk on the back of the Police Department's motorcycles.

"I'm in the 21st Century now,"said Officer John Haggerty of the Norwalk Police Department. "I've been issued a E-Ticket printer and computer deck. What I am able to do now is stop motor vehicles and stop persons for licenses to see if they are good, if they are a wanted persons or persons of interest."

The Mobile Data Terminal and E-Ticket Printer allows motor officers greater access to law enforcement information during a traffic stop and increases efficiency.

"I can now issue a ticket by the press of a button. It cuts down on holding up the person being stopped and it is also a benefit for me [in regards to safety]. I'm not cumbersome with holding a bunch of things in my hand," said Officer Haggerty.

"Now I am able to walk to the rear of the bike, type in the information, press in the charges, press a button, I get a ticket, I walk back to the car, give the person their infraction and they are off and on their way," added Officer Haggerty.

The compact unit has all the capabilities of the computers found is police cruisers. The motorcycle is the first in the state to be equipped with the technology.

"I think it will make me much more efficient and much more effect in dealing with the public, dealing with people during stops and all the information is right there," added Officer Haggerty.
