Mayor David Martin announced the appointment of Clemon Williams as Director of Human Resources for the City of Stamford Thursday, May 22. Williams has been serving as the Acting Director of Human Resources since February 2014.
Williams comes to the position after a long and successful career in human resources and legal affairs, having worked as Stamford’s Assistant Director of Human Resources since 2012. Williams previously worked for Sony Music Entertainment, where he worked for 20 years as Vice President and Senior Counsel for Business and Legal Affairs. He also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and as a staff attorney in the U.S. Department of Labor.
Among his many management responsibilities, Williams will lead the department and address key issues such as the negotiation of labor agreements and the reorganization of the Human Resources Department.
“Clemon brings an accomplished background in labor relations and human resources to the position and will play an important role in our efforts to transform City Hall. He will be instrumental in implementing initiatives that will improve employee support, reduce long term obligations, and increase accountability,” said Mayor Martin. “Clemon has earned a sterling reputation as a dedicated leader and tough but fair negotiator, and I am looking forward to working with him in the months and years ahead.”
Williams’ employment contract will be submitted to the Board of Representatives for consideration and approval in the coming weeks.
