Westport Country Playhouse will hold a star-studded benefit on Monday, June 16th with all proceeds going to the Script in Hand series.
"Other People's Money" will be the featured reading, bringing together voices from all over Broadway, incuding: Chris Henry Coffey, Beth Fowler, Victor Garber, Shuler Henlsey and Jennifer Mudge. The Westport Country Playhouse describes the play as, "funny, insightful and timely". Following the reading, there will be a "Meet the Cast" reception.
"I’ve been wanting to revisit this play for several years now,” said Director Anne Keefe in a statement. “It’s a David and Goliath story – and I love that it features Yankee ingenuity, some stirring speeches, donuts, and sex!”
"Other's People's Money" tells the story of a Wall Street takeover artist, recently discovering the undervalued stock of New England Wire and Cable. If the stockholders back his takeover, they will make a bundle – but what happens to the 1200 employees and the community when he liquidates the assets? The play appeared off-broadway in 1989 and was later made into a movie starring Danny DeVite and Gregory Peck.
You most likely recognize the stars in the performance. Chris Henry Coffey appeared in Westport Country Playhouse’s “The Dining Room” and “Lips Together, Teeth Apart,” and Broadway’s “Bronx Bombers.” Beth Fowler currently appears in the Netfliex original series, "Orange is the New Black." Victor Garber was in the "Titanic and "Argo" and "Frasier", just to name a few.
Tickets to the benefit playreading and post-performance “Meet the Cast” reception are $100, $50, and $30. The play is appropriate for ages 16 and up.
