Shredding documents, like bank statements, cancelled check cards and medical records, is one of the best ways to avoid identity theft. Westport residents will have a chance to dispose of those items and more during tomorrow's shred day at the Westport Weston Health District.
“Document shredding is safe, secure, and confidential," said Selectman Jim Marpe. "This event helps insure protection against identity theft, in addition to spring cleaning file cabinets. Our environment also benefits since all material will be recycled.”
This will be the town's sixth annual community shred day, from 9am to noon. Residents may shred up to eight paper bags (bags recycle too), or three boxes (12 inches by 18 inches), per household. Each car will be charged $5. Proof of Westport residency is required. Volunteers from the Staples High School Service League of Boys will be on site to assist, where necessary.
The Westport Weston Health District is located at 180 Bayberry Lane Westport, CT.
