The Stamford High School Drama Club will represent Connecticut at the New England Drama Festival this week in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, according to a release from Stamford Public Schools. SHS qualified to represent the state after winning the “Outstanding Production” award at the recent Connecticut Drama Association (CDA) Festival. The three student actors and 25-student production crew of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged,” is one of only two productions in the state to earn the award and represent Connecticut at the festival. This is the seventh time in 11 years that Stamford High School will represent the state.

“I am very proud of our entire cast and crew who will represent the state of Connecticut this week,” said Tom DeSalvo, SHS Drama Club Advisor. “The students have been working on this production since November, and this is proof that hard work pays off. I am glad these kids will get to be a part of this amazing experience in Vermont."

The SHS production also earned several other production awards at the Connecticut Drama Association Festival, including “People’s Choice,” “Outstanding Props,” and “Outstanding Timing.” All three SHS actors took home recognitions as well. Stamford High School junior William Hunt was one of only four students, from hundreds of candidates, to receive the “Outstanding Actor” award. According to the CDA, it is the highest individual award of the festival given for “truly superior work in creating and developing characters in an artistic manner.  SHS senior Ziggy Sakalauskas and sophomore Shaina Lubliner were two of 12 students to receive “All Connecticut Cast” awards, which are presented for “excellent work in creating characters that are believable, often complex and textured, and truthful to style of the production,” according to the CDA.
