It's National Public Health Month and to help kick off awareness, the Greenwich Department of Health held an educational event at Town Hall. One of the biggest health issues we see this season are the small ticks.
"We are hyper-endemic in that the ticks are so common that people are coming into contact with them every day, maybe without even knowing it," said Benjamin Pinkert, Lab Technician, Greenwich Department of Health.
To help with tick identification, Pinkert displayed specimens of ticks and a microscope.
"The biggest thing that we tell people to do is to always check for ticks after being outside, especially in wooded areas," said Pinkert.
The Greenwich Department of Health also wants to remind residents that if you find an unusual tick, they will help to identify the type of tick free of charge. For more information visit www.greenwichct.org.
