A hotdog, a rowboat, and a basketball court; these were just some of the tiny creative cars that were weighed and inspected Sunday for the upcoming Girl Scouts Powder Puff Derby. The 3rd annual fundraising event brought over 100 girl scouts to St. Cecilia’s Parish Center to put the finishing touches on their cars before impounding for racing day.
“We really like this event because it involves the whole family,” says Peggy Erlenkotter, Co-Service Unit Manager for the Stamford Girl Scouts. “The girls get to build their cars with their parents and we have a lot of participation. The creativity is just amazing.”
While the girls put a lot of work into the design of their cars, they learned some important lessons a long the way.
“If you really want something you can accomplish it by believing in yourself,” says one scout.
The Powder Puff Derby will take place next Sunday, March 23, at Stamford’s Italian Center beginning at 10 a.m.
