Last year, Adriana Tutillo walked into Fleet Feet Sports in Stamford for some sneakers.
"I had plantar fasciitis and my doctor recommended me to come here to get fitted properly for some shoes," said Adriana Tutillo, a Stamford resident.
As she was getting fitted, she heard about Fleet Feet's training programs. From there, Tutillo hit the ground running and has lost 53 pounds since getting involved. Initially, Tutillo signed up as a walker, because of her bad foot.
"It was hard because of the foot. But they were so accepting, they were so welcoming and just supportive," said Tutillo.
Now, she can run four miles, which she says was "a lot" for her, and is taking on another course -- Fleet Feet's community weight loss "Ton of Fun" challenge.
"We're challenging the Stamford community to lose a ton of weight. So we'll be having private weekly weigh-ins," said Troy Burk, owner of Fleet Feet Stamford.
The idea: losing a ton of weight by having a ton of fun. The program runs 12 weeks.
"I think it should be fun," said Burk. "One of the things we've found, diets don't work; that they're not fun."
"With a 'Ton of Fun' I think I'm just going to do it just to have fun," said Tutillo, "And get as much information as I can."
"We'll have some cooking demos, we'll have nutritional recipes and then we're also going to offer them activities where they can focus on leading an active lifestyle," said Burk.
"Everybody supports Everybody," said Tutillo, describing the training atmosphere at Fleet Feet, "And if we're all doing the same type of routes everybody's there cheering everybody on."
There will be an information session Thursday February 6 at the Stamford store location. February 8 is the first weigh in, but people can sign up during the program.
