Greenwich Police are advising that all motorists avoid the areas surrounding the intersection of Arch Street and Railroad Avenue in Greenwich Friday. A large water main ruptured Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Arch and Railroad, and the cleanup and repair continues.
According to police, most approaches to the intersection are closed and will remain closed overnight and through the morning rush hour Friday.
Detour routes have been established however traffic congestion downtown, especially in the areas of I-95 Exit #3 and the Greenwich Railroad Station, will be significant on Friday morning. Police are asking drivers to consider using Exits 2 and 4 as alternate ways to access I-95. Rail commuters may want to consider using alternate Metro-North Stations for drop-offs and pickups. Police suggests that if you must travel through this area, allow plenty of extra time tomorrow morning.
