Sometimes making a difference in a child’s life can be as simple as buying a toy.
“Every child deserves a little Christmas,” says George Ducanic, local Toys For Tots coordinator. “I have a lot of families that lost their jobs or for whatever reason, they just couldn’t afford to get toys for their kids and Toys For Tots has always come through.”
Ducanic is the coordinator of the Stamford-based Toys For Tots, which provides for Stamford, Greenwich, New Canaan, and Darien.
“This is our twenty first year and I’m sure that the kind people out there will fulfill the needy kids again in this area,” Ducanic says.
Ducanic says the local branch, sponsored by the American Legion, has collected an average of 20,000 toys each year for the past 5 years. So far, he says only 2,000 toys have been collected this year.
“We’re hoping the people will fill our collection boxes and we’re going to start needing the toys in the next few days to fill out our requests from the local churches, non-profits.”
Ducanic says Toys for Tots collects toys for infants and children up to 12-years old.
“Our shortage of toys are the 11 and 12-year-olds and the infants and up to two-year-olds.
