"Today, we honor our Italian ancestors and one special person each year by raising the Italian Flag at Greenwich Town Hall. Linda Moshier is that person for 2013." said Tod Laudonia, President of the St. Lawrence Society.
Linda Moshier is the 2013 St. Lawrence Society Honoree for their 26th Annual Columbus Day Celebration.
"So happy to a part of this Italian community." said Moshier, who came to Greenwich 45 years ago. "I just love it and they have been so wonderful to me and I love to help people and that's one of the reasons why I magnetized to the St. Lawrence Club."
Members of the St. Lawrence Society gathered outside Greenwich Town Hall Monday morning to raise the Italian Flag and celebrate Italian-American culture.
Laudonia added, "It's all really about our ancestors and what they've provided for us. It's honoring them along with honoring someone like Linda today who has followed those traditions and continued to keep our heritage alive."
First Selectmen Peter Tesei said, "You're descendants of those people who had the forsight to travel over here and establish themselves in America. Columbus Day gives us the opportunity to celebrate all of that every year and frankly it makes everyone in America Italian."
Moshier added, "I grew up in Seneca Falls, New York in a very Italian community and household, so heritage is very very important to me so this a monumental honor."
