Governor Dannel Malloy made a stop in Stamford Monday to show his support for Democratic Mayoral Candidate David Martin. Over 100 supporters attended the endorsement rally at UCONN.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that my friend David Martin, with all of his years of experience on various boards, commissions, and caring about this community, is the right candidate to be selected on election day this November,” says Malloy.
Malloy was joined by State Representative William Tong, who lost to Martin in September’s primary. Malloy, who originally endorsed Tong, offered his support to Martin immediately after his win.
“William fought a good fight, but in the Democratic party we come together,” says Malloy. “And let me be very clear that I think David has the skill set, the intelligence and the integrity to be an outstanding mayor of this great city, Stamford.”
“We’re not here today just because we’re democrats, we’re not here because we have to, we’re really not just here because it’s the right thing to do,” says Tong. “There’s a much more important reason. We’re here to elect David Martin as our next Mayor because we believe in what he believes in.”
“It is time to forge a fiscally responsible, strong, well managed city government,” says Martin. “It is time to provide our people with the opportunities and the quality of life they deserve.”
Democrats from the city’s state delegation were also in attendance at Monday’s rally.
“He’s the man for the job,” says State Senator Carlo Leone. “As a group, as a delegation, we’re here to give our support to David to make sure that he succeeds in this endeavor.”
“Let us move forward tonight as a united Democratic party determined to win on November 5th. Together we can ensure, as Dan first said, that Stamford’s greatest times are yet to come,” says Martin.
