"It's good exercise and I love getting dirty."said Doug, a participant in the 2013 Muddy Up 5K for the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.
Runners were not afraid to get down and dirty for the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich's 2nd Annual Muddy Up 5K Race on Sunday morning.
"It really fascinating because it really brings the communtity together. Everyone is running together for a great cause." said Alleyah Dannett, Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich Youth of the Year and Muddy Up Volunteer.
Bob DeAngelo, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club Greenwich said "All the funds that we raise are going straight to kid programs here. Our outdoor programs and summer camp programs."
Families and teams from Greenwich and surrounding towns participated in the event that included running, swimming, obstacles and a mud pit at the end.
Lia Barsanti, who participated with her high school swimming team from Darien High School said "We have been swimming at the Boys and Girls Club every Sunday ever since I was a freshmen so we really wanted to come out and support them. We also pride ourselves on being a really close team so we thought this would be a good bonding activity."
Marcus Zavattaro, who participated with his two daughters Alexis and Lia said "Just look at the faces on these kids. They come up here in the summertime for camp, the club is a great after-school program for kids as well so it is a foundation of the community so you have to support it."
Over 700 participants raised over 100 thousand dollars for outdoor programs at the club and Camp Simmons in Greenwich.
