Westhill High School’s principal Camille Figluizzi says the school’s fire alarm system has been inoperable since May.
Figluizzi says the City was made aware of the issue immediately. She says AFB Management, the City’s facilities manager, is in charge of fixing the system; a process Figluizzi says has been slow.
In the meantime, Figluizzi says the building is open with the help of volunteer firefighters. Several firefighters from Turn of River Fire Department patrol the building during school hours, and after hours until it closes.
The cost is unclear, but Turn of River says they’re keeping it to a minimum.
Figluizzi says AFB held a meeting at the school Monday to discuss the specifics of fixing the system. AFB could not be reached for comment.
Figluizzi says the fire alarm system is expected to be working within the next two weeks.
