U.S. Representative Jim Himes sought input from the public Sunday on whether Congress should support President Obama’s call for military action in Syria. Himes hosted a town hall meeting in the Darien Library, where hundreds packed into the auditorium, overflowing into the courtyard.
It became obvious what direction the audience was leaning in after Senator Richard Blumenthal polled the room. When asked who was against a strike, the majority of those in attendance raised their hands.
Himes says he has several concerns that make him skeptical of the President’s push for a strike on Syria, such as lack of international support and possible retribution. Although still unsure on how he will vote when the time comes, Himes left Sunday’s meeting in support of his constituents.
Congress is scheduled to vote on the matter this week.
