Norwalk High School's Marching Band debuted its fall show "iSpy" Friday night at Andrews Field on County Street. Staff, students and parents came together for Spirit Night to watch the band and color guard perform its newest musical numbers and routines.
"This is a whole new presentation that we started learning," said Chris Rivera, director of bands. "And there's even things we added in today for the first time, we added in some sound effects, we added in a special character so its going to be a working progress. It never is complete until November."
"From the time that we had, I think it went really well because usually we only start putting in horn movements like later in the season and we got to do that later in the show," said Michael Vallerie.
The MAC Champion NHS Marching Band has a long history of excellence, and is known throughout the area for its consistent levels of high achievement, hard work and showmanship.
"My favorite part is going to the championships and actually playing in front of the crowds," said Kaitlyn Turlis.
Boot camp practices include 12 hour days Monday through Friday. Incoming freshman Alejandro Mayorga says after playing in his first high school performance, he's already looking forward to championships.
"We already put a lot of work into this and I know a lot of people here now," said freshman Alejandro Mayorga. "I want to go to the championship like we did last year. Last year they won and I would like to win again."
"This year I'm probably looking forward to mostly our MAC Championships in Bridgeport in November," said Abigail Abrams. "And our New York field band championships at the Syracuse Dome in October."
"When we were in the Championships in the Syracuse Dome, it was insane, and I really want to hear our hit this year in the dome."
The band's director says he has one goal for his students.
"We want to be the best band we can possibly be so at championships if we did the best performance we can do we achieved our goal, but of course we were champions last year and we're hoping to be champions again this year."
