Take one, two and three.
Tuesday marked the planning board's third public hearing, and second chance for residents to speak up about the city's boatyard issue.
The proposed license agreement would grant Building and Land Technology city land in exchange for improvements to build a boatyard. If approved, BLT would construct a facility for hedge fund Bridgwater Associates at the vacant Brewer Yacht Haven site. BLT demolished the marina in 2011.
But the issue goes beyond the boatyard. There's also the U.S. Navy Sea Cadets whose training facility is currently at the proposed new boatyard site. So far, there isn't a clear idea of where they'll go if the plan is approved.
The improvements include a new animal shelter. But some shelter supporters don't want a new space built next to the Water Pollution Control Authority.
Next week, the board will continue the hearing at the same site (Westover Elementary School). This time, city officials and BLT will have a chance to respond.
