It's the one week where Connecticut shoppers can shop tax free.
"We're excited. We do need a couple things before school starts," said Aimee Muth, a resident of Old Greenwich shopping in Stamford.
"For most people, I think they take advantage of it for the kids," said Kira Seabolt, a Greenwich resident.
This week, area residents can buy items of clothing and shoes under $300 without paying sales tax. With back to school shopping in full swing, parents say it's helpful.
"I think it's a great opportunity for everybody to take advantage of all the school shopping they need to do for clothes and shoes. Especially when you have little ones, because they grow and everything," said Seabolt.
Items valued more than $300, but discounted using a coupon, are also tax exempt.
"Some new shoes, and some pajamas -- surprisingly. What else do we need? We'll see what's out there," said Muth.
The annual event runs through August 24.
