Swimming Lessons in Memory of Stamford Teen


Community coming together in memory of Rashad Gross

Stamford's community is coming together in memory of a young man, who died of an accidental drowning in June, by offering swimming lessons.  The program is in memory of 13-year-old Rashad Gross, a Turn of River Middle School student, who did not know how to swim.  

The free program "Stamford Swims in Memory of Rashad Gross" will cover basic swimming and water survival skills for children ages 6 to 14.  It will be available for over 140 students.  

The schedule is the following:

Yerwood Center, 90 FairfieldAve.

August 19-23

1. Noon to 1:00 p.m.

2. 1:00 to 2 p.m.

3. 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

4. 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

 

Chelsea Piers CT, 1 Blachley Rd.

August 19-23

1. 11 a.m. to Noon

2. 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

Stamford YMCA, 909 Washington Blvd.

August 19-22

1. 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

2. 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

*Morning session only on August 22

Participants can sign up by calling any one of these locations or walking in to any of these locations.  

Yerwood's maximum class size is 15 participants per session, Chelsea Piers, 24 participants per session, and Stamford YMCA, 18 participants per session.

 The program is being funded by donations.  Those donations can be made payable to Stamford Achieves, 300 Main Street Suite 502 Stamford, CT 06901.  "Stamford Swims" should be noted in memo on checks.
