The Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery will host its third annual Thank You CT art gallery featuring artwork from 18 Connecticut artists. The opening night is Friday, August 2 from 6 to 9 p.m, and the exhibit will be on display throughout August.
The Gallery's communication director says it's a rare opportunity to expose local talents.
"It's really about giving gratitude and highlighting the talent of Connecticut, because of the selective process of the gallery we can't always represent all the artists," Rebecca Hansen. "We do this show every year to highlight local talent and give thanks to the state of Connecticut which has embraced us."
This year's exhibition features a variety of abstract, sculptural, figurative and photo-illustrator works selected by art foundation collector Eileen Kaminsky.
"It's a really diverse exhibition," Hansen said. "We always bring in a well known collector, museum director, or critic to judge. so we put out a call to artists. This year we received 350 images."
According to Hansen, Kamisky reviewed all the all the images and selected 26 works she wanted in the show.
"We have a lot of artists that come to us asking for representation, but as a gallery we have a very selective process about the type of art and artists that we can represent," Hanson added. "We designed this show to give a platform to all those artists who are maybe not fit for us as a gallery but who definitely should be recognized for their talent."
The gallery is located at 96 Bedford Street in Stamford.
